ROLE OF THE COMMUNITY AND DIVERSITY OFFICER
The CaDOs’ portfolio covers the six strands of diversity; race, religion, age, gender, disability and sexual orientation. They maintain an overview of racist, religious, homophobic and disability related incidents and can offer advice and guidance to officers engaged in investigations.
The CaDO regularly engage with local community groups and groups known as “Communities without Voices”, these are normally isolated groups who for whatever reason do not know how to contact the Police or there are barriers to making contact. The CaDO also maintain close links with community groups and partner organisations, monitoring and reporting on any tensions within the communities.
The CaDO also provide advice to the Local Police Area and Basic Command Unit Police Commanders on dealing with sensitive issues and locations.
