Education
Section 28 caused problems within the education system from its inception until it was repealed in 2003. This prevented schools from promoting homosexuality as the information within the legislation was very broad, many schools avoided the topic completely which included no using literature or text from known LGBT people or material on the subject matter in any form. The effect of this made Homophobic bullying in the schools almost acceptable.
The lobby group Stonewall have been working on anti bullying in Education the slogan "Some People Are Gay. Get Over It!" is a new suite of visually powerful materials, devised as part of Stonewalls Education for All campaign to tackle homophobia and homophobic bullying in schools.
The message was developed together with Secondary School Students; posters, stickers and postcards have been sent to every secondary school in England high lighting, in advance of anti bullying week, that schools have a duty to protect all pupils and that they need to take homophobic bullying seriously.
